What's the difference between 配偶 (pèi ǒu) and 爱人 (ài ren)?

These two are both formal call. 配偶 is more formal
配偶(spouse) is usually used in law or official statement. to clarify people's relationship.
e.g. 李四，系张三配偶
爱人(beloved) usually use to introduce your beloved to other people.
e.g. 这是我爱人，张三
